Bio:

My teaching is very personalised, and the style and level depend on each student’s needs and abilities. When I taught in schools, I was often assigned both set 1 and set 5 to teach, because of my ability to adapt my teaching to the level and needs of the students. In my tutoring, I find out where the student is and meet them there, regardless of whether that is the expected level for their age. I aim to develop students’ independence so they head towards a point where they no longer need a tutor.

My strengths include inspiring and challenging gifted students and making learning accessible to students who feel they are struggling. I am experienced at helping students whose maths or science is ‘broken’ (perhaps because of negative experiences) to lose their fear and repair their gaps and misunderstandings so that their progress accelerates and they enjoy the subject.

As a former sixth form tutor, I have helped many students to ensure their university applications, job applications and CVs fully do them justice. I also work with adults of all ages on CVs and job applications.

Testimonials for Amanda George:

Amanda is incredibly knowledgeable across the sciences and can teach these separately or through inspiring combined topics. Her teaching really stands out from the crowd: Amanda has incredible commitment to making her lessons interactive, visually engaging and lots of fun. She has an extremely conscientious approach, quickly identifying the learning preferences and behaviours of the child - and adapting to meet those needs really well. Amanda has a meticulous approach to planning, teaching and giving feedback - it is a total pleasure see this in action, both as a parent and as a child.

I first met Amanda when she was the Head of Science and Mathematics at my son’s secondary school in Cologne. I was immediately impressed with her level of professionalism, dedication to teaching and her attention to detail regarding the individual needs of the pupil.
She dealt with my son on a one-to-one basis and provided me with clear concise updates on his progress. She was fully responsible for setting, marking, and timetabling his curriculum. She was always punctual, prepared, and proved flexible and understanding when his timetable became difficult. Both my son and I, were and are impressed by her ability as both a tutor and a mentor. She is an inspirational teacher.
I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is more than suited and qualified to teach individuals or groups of all ages.

I just wanted to send a quick message about how Amanda’s tutoring has impacted my learning for Physics A level…
Amanda truly goes above and beyond in making sure her tutorials are personalised and focused on specifically improving your weakest areas in a subject. She takes so much time and care in tackling any specific queries you have, answering with such detailed explanations that break down complex material into something much easier to understand.
My recent A-level Physics exam has shown me just how much influence her teaching has had on my ability to both understand challenging material and apply it in the context of a tricky question. I would simply be nowhere near as confident in my physics ability without Amanda’s tutorials, and I feel seriously lucky to have been taught by such a skilled teacher.

Amanda tutored me for both maths and physics. She even took the time to refresh her memory and learn the entire further maths syllabus in order to help me through the course. If I ever needed extra practice on a certain type of question or aspect of the course, Amanda had a huge bank of questions which we could work through together or I could complete in my own time. She also had an extensive set of interactive diagrams to assist her clear explanations. I would not hesitate to recommend!

I asked my two sons now ages 11 and 14 to say what words come to mind to describe their favourite teacher.
Philippe age 11 came up with: Fun Fun Fun; always happy and positive; patient; intelligent.
Julian age 14 said the following; She even made science fun; innovative; punctual and organized; good sense of humour.
I agree with all of the above. Amanda goes beyond what is required. A tireless worker that always demonstrated her enthusiasm and knowledge in all subjects and was able to customize it to their personal needs. She made learning something they enjoyed.

My son has just finished his Physics A level and for several months leading up to the exam, he was tutored by Amanda.
We found Amanda by recommendation, and we are so glad we did.
My son did not take Maths A Level, which meant a lot of the physics syllabus held challenges for him that a student also taking Maths did not face.
Amanda has been amazing at building his knowledge and his confidence. She has always been incredibly flexible and responsive to his needs and has consistently gone "the extra mile" to make sure he understood everything and was on track.
She's also extremely friendly and approachable, and built up an excellent rapport with him during the period they were working together. We had spoken to several other tutors before we met Amanda, but within moments of meeting her it was immediately clear that we had struck gold. As a family, we are very grateful for everything she did for my son and would recommend her services in a heartbeat.
